History & Identity

Created
Tampilisan was created by Batas Pambansa Blg. 14, approved December 22, 1978, out of the southern barangays of Liloy.[9]

How it got its name

The town's own history page says the name comes from the tampilis, a small palm-family tree that was plentiful in the area; the Subanen used part of it as a substitute for betel nut.[11]

Its story

Tampilisan was first a barangay of Liloy.[11]

Batas Pambansa Blg. 14 of December 22, 1978 separated seven southern barangays of Liloy to form the municipality, with Barangay Tampilisan as its seat; a plebiscite followed on March 22, 1979.[9, 11]

The municipality's own profile now lists it as the largest rubber producer in Zamboanga del Norte, planted across its 20 barangays.[12]
