History & Identity

How it got its name

Local traditionSimbalagon is given as the original name of the place, then a sitio of Ozamiz.[10]

Sources differOne account says a Spanish priest named Reverend Jimenez changed the name from Simbalagon to Tudela, after his birthplace in Spain.[10]

Its story

Tudela began as a sitio called Simbalagon under Ozamiz (Misamis) and was made a municipality during the American period by Executive Order No. 61 of 1920.[10]

In 1982 barangays Tuno, Lalud and Lampasan of Tudela were detached to help form Don Mariano Marcos (now Don Victoriano); the municipality says it lost three barangays to Don Victoriano.[11]
