History & Identity

Created
Created as a municipality of Davao province by Republic Act No. 5747, which became law without the President's approval on June 21, 1969; it took twelve barrios from Lupon, with its seat at Barrio Banaybanay.[9]

Its story

Banaybanay was carved out of Lupon: the law separated twelve of Lupon's barrios, among them Banaybanay itself, Mahayag and Panikian.[9]

The new town only gained corporate existence once its first mayor, vice-mayor and councilors were elected and qualified in the next general local elections.[9]
