What the numbers show
Outside Metro Manila, Cavite has the most: 10 of the 50. Basilan is next with 6. In all, 47 of the 50 are in 15 provinces.
How we worked it out. We put each place on the list under the province it is in, left Metro Manila out because its cities have no province, and counted each group.
3 of the 50 (6%) are in Metro Manila.
How we worked it out. We counted the places on the list that are in the National Capital Region and divided by 50.
The typical barangay of the 27,031 that can be compared grew 2.1% between 2020 and 2024. The 50th fastest grew 95.8%, about 46 times as fast.
How we worked it out. The typical (median) change is the middle one when all 27,031 places that can be compared are put in order by percent change.
45 of the 50 had fewer than 5,000 people in 2020. The smallest started with 1,006. A small place needs few new people to grow fast in percent.
How we worked it out. We read the 2020 counts in the table and counted those under 5,000.
Together they grew from 141,282 people in 2020 to 330,864 in 2024: 189,582 more.
How we worked it out. We added the 2020 counts and the 2024 counts of the 50 and took the difference.

How we counted
- Census date
- People are counted as of July 1, 2024 (the 2024 Census of Population) and May 1, 2020 (the 2020 Census of Population and Housing), both by the Philippine Statistics Authority.
- Source
- Philippine Statistics Authority: the 2024 Census of Population and the 2020 Census of Population and Housing. Every count is the PSA's own, for the place as the PSA names it today. The order, the change and the findings are Scene's arithmetic on those counts.
- Rules
- Places are ranked by the change, largest first. 27,031 of the 42,010 barangays can be compared. The other 14,979 are left out.
- The change is the percent difference between the two counts, (2024 count − 2020 count) ÷ 2020 count × 100, as Scene works it out. It is shown only for a place that can be compared across the two censuses.
- Only places with at least 1,000 people in the 2020 census are ranked, so a village that gained a few families does not top the list.
- A place is ranked only if the same place was counted in both censuses. Scene leaves out a place the PSA's list of changes shows as created, divided, merged or given a new code since the 2020 census, a place another one was carved out of, and a place with no 2020 count.
- The PSA's data carries no field that flags a changed border by itself; Scene reads the change list and the notes to each count, so a border change the PSA has not listed cannot be seen here.
- Privacy
- These are totals for places. No person is named, and no person can be found from them.
